Our Story

Wild Peony Farm was established by Rene Verduin in 2021 shortly after she moved to beautiful Paonia, Colorado from the San Francisco Bay Area to farm and raise goats.

The peony roots that settlers brought to Colorado in 1881 inspired them to submit the Latin name for peony, Paeonia, as a town name. The post office wouldn't allow the extra vowel, so "Paeonia" became "Paonia". The full name of the flower is Paeonia mascula.

Like the peony, Rene is also a transplant - born in California but raised in Colorado. From an early age she had a deep love for the natural world. After a long career as an artisan, dress-maker, and doula as well as raising two boys, she went back to school and received her BA in Nursing in 2019.

While working as a nurse, Rene became clear that she could combine her skills as a caregiver with her love of herbs to create extraordinary products that were in line with her values. The result is Wild Peony Farm.
